A Community of Families
Sammamish, a quiet suburban city known for its great schools and beautiful scenery, incorporated in 1999. It lies along the eastern shore of Lake Sammamish, nestled comfortably between Redmond to the north and Issaquah to the south. With the annexation of the Klahanie area, the city’s population rose to approximately 60,000 on Jan. 1, 2016.
Residents of this forested community enjoy views of mountains, lakes and streams. One of the state’s most affluent cities, with a per capita income that ranks 11th out of 522 cities in the state, Sammamish also boasts a convenient transit system with bus routes to Seattle and various Eastside communities. Both the Lake Washington and Issaquah school districts, two of the county’s best school districts, are located within city limits.
Sammamish has become an attractive site for businesses and residents due to its close proximity to Seattle, Issaquah, Redmond and Bellevue. There are currently two major business centers in the city: the Pine Lake shopping center and the Inglewood shopping centers, both located on 228th Avenue, the city’s main north/south arterial. The city’s carefully planned Town Center, midway between the two existing commercial centers on 228th Avenue, is now under development.
